OUR COLLABORATORS ARE WRITING DETROIT’S NEXT CHAPTER
Whether it’s the chocolates in your room’s private bar or the handsome denim vests worn by our bartenders, we’ve gone the extra mile to use items made by some of the city’s finest craftspeople. After all, Detroiters have always been builders and makers, and that hasn’t changed. See for yourself in our retail lobby showroom.

On Detroit and Collaborating…
Detroit is authentic. Detroit is raw. The in between of nostalgia and innovation. With every struggle comes success. Detroit is its people and their love and pain and persistence. Detroit is home.
What excites us about our collaboration with Detroit Foundation Hotel is not the idea of personal gain, but the idea of a common goal.
1701 Bespoke. Old world methods tailored to our modern day lives.
The Foundation Hotel is another exciting project helping to usher along the rebirth of Detroit. The hotel’s industrial design is a direct nod to city’s blue collar roots and captures the essence of the region and its people. While the city as a whole has experienced extremely difficult times, it has proven to be resilient and also progressive enough to flourish into what it is becoming today.
Anton Maka Designs is the product of my passion for creating works that combine classic woodworking techniques with metal fabrication. There’s no other thing I rather be doing.
Bon Bon Bon makes Bon Bon Bons. “Bon” means “good” and the whole idea, really is to employ good people to make good chocolate for other good people using really good ingredients. Working with Detroit Foundation Hotel has given us the opportunity to collaborate with likeminded people. We are thrilled to have such a destination and experience like that of Foundation Hotel, full of wonderful new neighbors to work and create with, right around the corner!
Detroit Bikes aspires to contribute to healthy urbanism by creating a product that enriches the urban experience while telling a story that is uniquely about urban revival. These are the only bikes being produced in a rapidly rebounding US city, and they are being produced so that people in cities across this country can expand their affordable, reliable, and fun transportation alternatives.
Our mission is to be a vehicle of change through movement and community . The focus is rebuilding one part at a time, one workout at a time. Be bold and make an impact with the tools you are given. This is Detroit Body Garage
We run our business how we run our lives (our business is personal). Take care in what we do. Work hard, like God created us to do. Use all of our resources and abilities responsibly. Serve others. Enjoy ourselves and the beauty of what we do. Have positive relationships. Enjoy nice things responsibly. Don’t be wasteful. Do things with purpose
We’re so excited to collaborate with the Foundation Hotel on uniforms for the staff. As a traditional blue collar city, we’re stoked to bring an upscale approach to service uniforms. Through our partnership with LEAR we were able to utilize existing resources from the auto trim industry to develop ready-to-wear apparel. The 3-D technical knit fabrication is a huge hit with the staff! Thanks to Foundation Hotel for enlisting us to work with them on this amazing project!
A long-time fan of the DFDHQ as an architectural wonder in downtown, both as a home-base to our civil servants as well as a killer location for after-hours Autoshow parties, Detroit Laser was thrilled to contribute to its next phase of life and work with the all the great people from the design, build, and property management teams that made it all happen. We are proud to have played a small part in the Detroit Foundation Hotel’s launch and look forward to its continued success!
Detroit is really the garden from which we’ve sprung. Our work is so directly tied to the wells of inspiration we’re pulling from and Detroit is our main source. This city is so deeply rooted in history and community, there is such a strong creative force here, so much culture that deserves to be preserved and celebrated – so we are both a product of and contributor to that life force that is Detroit.

Shane and Melissa are inspired by beautiful places, beautiful design, and the beautiful people of Detroit. The culture that surrounds them shapes their products, and their products in turn contribute to the community. They are privileged and blessed to pour their heart and souls into each product. This enables customers to walk away with more than just a product; they also receive the intrinsic satisfaction of owning something fashioned from a deep rooted passion.
Collaborating with Detroit Foundation Hotel and Simeone Deary Design Group has meant taking my ideas and capabilities to another level that until now have not really been tapped into. Beginning with SDDG’s visionary concepts and growing their ideas into a tangible object was exciting and exhilarating. We’ve had some pretty great projects over the years, but this collaboration took every aspect of the design/build relationship to a more refined and professional level. I’m quite proud to have been a part of this collaboration and to have it take place in my home town.

We draw several parallels between our brand and the city of Detroit. As the city is experiencing its resurgence, there is so much growth and so many improvements constantly taking place. As a company, Kickstand improves and grows by leaps and bounds at a time.We also embrace the blue-collar, hard working philosophy which is the backbone of Detroit.Forged with elbow-grease, sweat, and determination, we put our noses to the grindstone and meet head on, any and all challenges that we encounter on a daily basis.
Our collaboration with the Foundation Hotel gave us the opportunity to create a unique piece that reflects the history and architecture of the building. The design we were able to achieve through our collaboration is something that we are glad to display as part of our portfolio.
I came to Detroit from California in 2005, during a time when nobody really wanted to be associated with the city. Like many before me though I instantly fell in love with the city and even more, its people.
Detroit a shaved every part of my life; from how I work to family to how I view the world as a filmmaker.
I have traveled to 30 countries and there’s no place I’d rather call home. I’m honored to call people here my friends and to make films that promote the beautiful things in the city.
Working with the foundation motel was the highlight of my year. Focusing on the beautiful work that some of the best artisans and craftsman created was a reflection of the cities drive to move forward from its challenged past. Seeing the commitment of the foundation hotel to doing as much as they can to have as much Detroit in the hotel as possible was a huge encouragement because I knew they care about quality, the locals and that everyone who came to the hotel will get to experience the city in a deeper way by simply checking in.
With everything I do I want to create the most moving, unique, compelling footage possible to give the viewer and experience they have not had before.
I work for a range of clients with a range of budgets for one thing stands true, do the best I can to reflect to be in front of me and keep story at the front.
I have been filming detorit for 12 years and I’m going to be filming over the next year to create a documentary that shows this current Renaissance in a very personal way but also in a very global way.

TBD Magazine was started to help the world see Detroit the way we do: a place where dreams come true and where entrepreneurs need little more than a great idea and gumption to thrive. TBD invites those under the impression that Detroit’s glory days ended with the Motown era to take a closer look.
Detroit is a rough and raw place, and we want our products to reflect the environment they were gathered from. The beauty is in the imperfection. And we are trying to bring as much beauty as we can out of an otherwise ugly and contagious problem.
At Woodward Throwbacks we are doing our part in trying to recycle as much raw material as possible from our city. And in the process helping to clean up streets and neighborhoods that we salvage the materials from.
By photographing Detroit Foundation Hotel, I am keeping the concept of the book—the revitalization of the city—current and up-to-date. Things are changing so quickly in Detroit. It is important to continue to document the exciting developments in the city. Detroit Foundation Hotel is one of the best examples of adaptive reuse and innovation in the city. I have appreciated the openness and friendliness of the owners and staff to provide access to the interior spaces of the hotel, as well as, the behind the scene views.
Saving Trees and Lives … As a full service design and fabrication company, we focus on providing meaningful work for our returning ex-felons and our marginalized youth in partnership with other community members. In this process we are able to create a positive environment for mentorship and opportunities for our crew to repurpose their lives. Ultimately, this allows us to reclaim these too often discarded resources and lives.
We create intentionally simple and timeless designs, crafted from salvaged woods, featuring rich organic textures integrated with raw modern and industrial materials. This dynamic combination between our people and our materials creates an unparalleled quality behind our hand-made furnishings, fixtures, picture frames and other wood goods for commercial and residential spaces that tell a uniquely human story to pass down through the generations.
We take great pride in curating a unique world of luxury goods, while remaining true to our neighborhood-style of service and quality.
