Salon Spotlight: 𝘋𝘳. 𝘏𝘶𝘣𝘦𝘳𝘵 𝘔𝘢𝘴𝘴𝘦𝘺 (@hubert.massey)

Detroit’s walls tell stories, and few have shaped those stories like Dr. Hubert Massey. A nationally recognized muralist and one of the few American artists trained in traditional fresco techniques under the assistants of Diego Rivera, Dr. Massey’s work bridges craft, history, and community.

From his beginnings as a sign painter to creating monumental frescoes and sculptures that define Detroit’s civic landscape, Massey’s practice reflects both mastery of technique and deep cultural engagement. His 30-foot-high fresco, “Detroit Crossroads of Innovation,” inside the Convention Center, is just one example of how he transforms public spaces into living narratives.
