Le Salon is Detroit’s new gathering for curious minds and spirited conversation. Each month, we invite local professors, artists, and community leaders to share fresh perspectives in a relaxed, after-hours setting in our new Borgman Room just off of the Apparatus Room.
Arrive early, grab a cocktail (or your drink of choice), and settle in for a 35–40 minute talk that’s as thought-provoking as it is approachable. Whether you’re a regular or just dropping by, Le Salon is your place to connect, unwind, and discover something new—no tickets, no pressure, just great ideas and good company.

About the Lecture
Join muralist Dr. Hubert Massey for an inspiring overview of his artistic journey—from his beginnings as a sign painter to his current role as Detroit’s most prolific public artist and civic storyteller. Massey’s works, spanning fresco, tile, oil, and monumental sculpture, include his 30- foot-high fresco “Detroit Crossroads of Innovation” in Detroit’s Convention Center. The lecture will conclude with an audience Q&A moderated by art historian Deborah Lubera Kawsky.
About the Lecturer
Dr. Hubert Massey is a nationally recognized Detroit muralist and one of the few American artists trained in the traditional fresco technique under the assistants of Diego Rivera. A Kresge Arts Fellow, his practice centers on large-scale public art that tells the stories of Michigan’s communities. From murals at the Charles H. Wright Museum to sculptures at Campus Martius, Massey’s work reflects both mastery of craft and deep civic engagement.
